Artist's Comments

Steampunk girl popped up in my head a few summers back, when I decided to take drafting class senior year. There were only three other girls in the class, so it really was still totally a boys club- the computers that the upper level students used for AutoCAD all had skeevy pinup girls as backgrounds, and the teacher used "drop and give me 50" as punishment for the jerks in the class. Anyways, that whole environment and the constant practice drawing machine parts pushed me to play with steampunk... which finally led to this. That, and it's an excuse to draw another giant robot.

Steampunk is too wonderful for words, and it's fantastic to see more art in the genre. :D Especially a piece as awesome as this! I love the dusty sort of atmosphere. It's so nice to see a robot that isn't entirely sterilized.

Heheh, thank you. Originally the background was actually *bright* orange and yellow, but I quickly realized the error of my ways, and dirtied it down a bit. I love how victorian folks were always putting unneccesary ornamentation on things- pocketwatches and cash registers and such covered in flowers- but at the same time, I didn't want it to be hyper-feminine. Though, now that I think on it, the cash registers and typewriters seem more art noveau... but who's nitpicking, anyways?:)

The excessive decorations of the Victorian period are simply too marvelous for words. They're just so... TACKY, it's wonderful. Love it. But I like how you gave this picture just a hint of decoration. This way you don't actually notice the Victorian influence until you really look at it; what I noticed first was the woman's goggles, then her clothing, then the bronze pretties on the robot. Like you said, not hyper-femine. Very nice.

Necromancy--helping to lessen our dependancy on the funerary industrial complex.

Silly people! Little do they know... that we are twins! Twins of girly, comic-filled horror and goodness! If they realized this dark secret.... stuff would go down.
